Music We all have music we enjoy. This is some of my favorite.
I grew up in the South in the 1950's and 60's. We owned a record player and my sister and I would play 45 rpm records. My grandfather was an electronics technician. We had a reel-to-reel recorder that he recorded my sister and I on. I have this tape and have dubbed it to cassette, VHS, and store it digitally on my hard drive. I remember watching the Beatles when they appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show in 1964. Pop/rock was my favorite music, but I also listened to some Country music, especially Hank Williams. My grandfather brought a stereo console home in 1965, and this was my audio system as a teenager. It had vacuum tubes for output, but that meant nothing to me back then. In the 1970's I began to listen to Country music more than Pop. As I grown older, I 've also begun listening to Jazz and Classical much more than before. I'm not a fan of most Country music of today. I don't listen to any Pop or Rap. Many artists I like are dead or very old.
Favorite Singers:
Frank Sinatra is the best Pop singer I've ever heard. Several others come close, but when I want to hear a great singer, I pick Frank.
Patsy Cline: If you've heard Patsy, there is no need to say more.
Jimmy Buffett is not that great a singer, but his early songs are some of my favorites.
Linda Ronstadt. Her 1980's recordings with Nelson Riddle are almost perfect. Great for showing off the system.
Emmylou Harris. Her voice gives me the chills. The 1977 Luxury Liner album is full of great songs. "Tulsa Queen" comes to mind.
Paul Simon. This guy keeps reinventing his music like no other.
Merle Haggard. So many great songs, and his band was always excellent.
Hank Williams. Pure Country. How could one man write so many classics?
Johnny Cash. True American legend.
George Jones. Probably the best Country voice ever.
Randy Travis. Right up there with George.
George Strait. A perfect Country voice. So many #1 records.
Alan Jackson. His songs remind me of where I'm from.
Hank Williams Jr. I was addicted to his music back in the 70's.
Jackson Browne: He appeals to my "Dreamer" side. "The Pretender" album is a classic.
Lorretta Lynn: She has always been special.
Some other Artists I like:
Babara Streisand, Tammy Wynette, Aretha Franklin, Eric Clapton, Michael Jackson, Elton John, Ray Charles, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Moody Blues, Electric Light Orchestra, Roy Orbison, Marty Robbins, Diana Krall. There are more.
These days I mostly stream jazz, classical music, and the "Great American Song Book".
